Pronounced C-L, the new offering from Cadillac derives its name from the French word for sky. The convertible 4-seater offers a plentiful view of the heavens for both the driver and the passengers that ride in it. Keeping in mind the grand traditional lines of the Cadillac as well as the company’s legendary contributions to open-air motors, the luxurious Ciel concept symbolizes everything that the brand stands for.
Expressively luxurious, the Ciel celebrates the grandeur of the history of the automaker with its larger than life silhouettes that resemble the iconic contours made famous by the cars of the 70’s. The concept draws inspiration from the experience of driving across the Californian coastline soaking up the bounty of the Sunshine State. The romance of the drive is married with the kind of luxury presented at the Concours d’Elegance to create a futuristic car that doesn’t break away from the lines and traditions that have made the brand one of the ultimate authorities in all things luxury.
With a twin-turbocharger enabled 3.6L DI V6 powering the beast, the Ciel also reflects the company’s vision for the future of the planet via a hybrid system that uses Li-Ion batteries to provide backup power. As soon as the engine is started, the transmission shifter with power-assistance deploys automatically which gives engine performance a further boost.
The tourer comes with enough space for two couples or a bunch of friends out to experience the great American road trip. The drama of the interior is seconded only by the beauty of its classically radiant black exterior that is accentuated with nose to tail fender lines and nickel-plated accents along the lines of the body. With no B-pillar, the French-style doors swing open invitingly and delight rear seat passengers with a direct step-in option that is often missing in open-air tourers.
The authentic craftsmanship of the design is spilled over in the cabin with extensive use of nickel-plated trimmings paired with fragrant woods and rich smooth leather upholstery. The Cabernet paint job further emphasizes the artistic signature of the brand’s identity while the impressive 22” milled billet aluminum alloys finished brushed nickel plating add another layer of grace to the concept.
