Wheelchair is the best mode of movement for disabled people and these days many companies are busy manufacturing electric wheelchairs in order to make the movement of disabled people effortless and comfortable.
Here is the list of 10 electric wheelchair designs for effortless movement.
1. Lifestand LSE (semi electric)
These wheelchairs are best for people suffering from Haempiplegics, tetraplegics and multiple sclerosis. The wheelchair can be propelled manually and its electric standing can be activated by just pushing a button. The Lifestand allows its user to move around comfortably without putting in much effort.
2. Movetto px4 electric wheelchair
Designer Pamela Lindgren deserves credit for designing and building Movetto px4. This wheelchair is designed keeping in mind the needs of physically disable people. Movetto px4 moves like a Segway and allows the user to remain mobile comfortably. Lindgren has taken care of the safety of the user by fitting a seat belt in Movetto px4. The front wheels of this wheelchair generate power, while the rear wheel takes care of the control. The wheelchair can turn around its own axis because it has a zero turning radius.
3. Electric wheelchair
Australian designer Jake Eadie has developed this electric chair as part of his final-year university project. This wheelchair is elevating and has a highly innovative design. The user has the option to choose between two modes: sitting and standing. The electric wheelchair allows physically disabled person to move like able-bodied people.
4. Ostrich Prestine FLEX wheelchair
This wheelchair is best suited for use in rough terrains as all the four wheels of this wheelchair come in contact with ground on uneven surface. The body panel is stylish and the seat is comfortable. The wheelchair is equipped with call alarm, fault alarm and reverse alarm. The footrest is foldable and height adjustable.
5. Futuristic wheelchair
This mobility aid concept is the brainchild of designer Thomas Ross and Dave Cochrane. The futuristic wheelchair designed by them features a teardrop extrusion, which is at the rear of the wheelchair. They have used Pellicle, Aeron chair fabric of Herman Miller, to make the machine more comfortable and safe. An oleo based suspension is connected to the main drive.
6. Combed slides to form a wheelchair
Designer Patrick Decker has designed and built “Combed”, a multifunctional unit that has a U-shaped bed frame and can turn into a wheelchair when required. This one-of-a-kind machine features a mattress. The mattress has a layer with air chambers. It also has a 3 cm-thick layer full of gel. The air mattress can be used as a seat for the wheelchair as well.
7. Urban wheelchair
This fully electric, lifting wheelchair is built by British designer Ben Thorpe. The wheelchair features a lifting mechanism that improves the reach of disabled person by lifting them in an upright position. The Urban Wheelchair also allows the physically challenged person to hold face-to-face conversations. The wheels are hub less and move on ball bearing system, which reduces the rolling resistance.
8. Speedy Wheelchair
This wheelchair can move at a fast speed because the wheels are big just like cars. This wheelchair is suited for those disabled person who like to move around without wasting much time. The design is stylish and the seat is comfortable.
9. X8 Extreme 4×4 Power Wheelchair
The X8 Extreme can be used comfortably in tough terrains. It can touch a top speed of 6.2 mph. The lifting mechanism of the X8 Extreme allows the users to elevate it to up to 12 inches.
10. Mid wheel drive power electric wheelchair
The mid wheel drive power electric wheelchair features an Active-Trac suspension. Its length is 39.5″ and the turning radius is 19.5″. This wheelchair can move at a top speed of 5 mph. It is powered by two 12-volt batteries.
