In these economically tough times, nothing says “I’ve got a job and money to throw around” quite like an afternoon of go-karting with your peeps. Though the popular pastime has been dissed globally by environmentalists as a reckless and irresponsible pursuit that pollutes the environment without serving any real purpose, auto developers and designers around the world been hard at work trying to make go-karting as environmentally-friendly as possible. Electric go-karts have been the most obvious alternatives to the fuel-laden karts though not many companies have been able to produce go-karts with the same kind of on-track performance as their petroleum-run counterparts. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil-based designer Paulo Victor Santos seeks to address the problem with his latest innovation, the ACTO leisure kart. A final product design project from PUC-Rio, the kart looks to add an unprecedented level of sustainability to the sport while offering the same kind of thrills and spills as traditional karts do.
Designed to prioritize the user’s experience without incurring a bad rep and a worse carbon footprint, the clean leisure kart offers a comfortable riding experience while guaranteeing users the safety and the speed needed to make the activity an optimum leisure experience. The kart has been designed to prioritize the pilot or the driver as the main consideration within the ergonomics of the vehicle with the cowl system and other parts being built around the user experience.
The frame of the kart has also been created around a sturdy chassis to allow users to push their leisure karts to its limits on the circuits without having to worry about the frame giving way during tight cornering or crashes. The leisure kart was create to ensure even the roughest go-kart routine and the most winding of all karting circuits and thus comes equipped with an ergonomic structure that boasts of the stability, safety and resistance that the leisure kart routine demands.
Created for sustainability, long term savings for manufacturers and renters, and low maintenance costs, the leisure kart guarantees a higher balance between competitors while offering a great performance everytime. Compared to most rental karts, the leisure kart is also much more sustainable since it uses accessible electrical energy to operate and thus emits lower levels of atmospheric and sound pollution.
A cleaner vehicle with electric propulsion, the vehicle was developed in collaboration with the university’s engineering labs and allows the user to personalize the kart before taking it out for a spin thanks to fast locks system for the fairing.
