When was the last time you actually bought a remote that made the process of controlling your entertainment system more physical? If you are anything like the 100 percent of the remote-control using people in the world, chances are that your answer to the above question is an emphatic “NEVER”! in a world where we have a whole section of the industry devoted to making remote controls more universal, simpler and easier to use, designer Ido Baruchin believes that its time humankind turned the process of using a remote control more physically stressing.
Created perhaps after observing a cartoon of a fat guy in front of a TV with a caption that played on the word “couch potato”, the Alt.Ctrl Interactive remote control is the most absurd idea that we have seen in a while, and when we say that, it is really saying something!
The design basically looks to make the simple, push-button operation of a remote control more complex by shaping it like a ball that with rotating halves that need to be turned to get a single function like volume, or channel, to increase or decrease, i.e., you have a single ball for volume control, channel changing and to turn the entertainment system ON/OFF, and by turning the halves of each ball clockwise or counter-clockwise, you can get the volume to go high or low, turn the TV on or switch it off, and change channels.
Sounds like a lot of work doesn’t it? It does to us too, and this is why we think that the device is actually a clever decoy conceptualized to make people appreciate their simple all-in-one, easy-to-operate remote controls more.
