Inspired by the Big Bang, this shimmering LED chandelier tells us the story of how light was born and plays back the history of the universe in fourteen seconds via a special time loop. Created by designer Daniel Libeskind, the warm, energy-efficient light fixture comes with a gold-bathed interior and a dotted glossy exterior crafted in stainless steel that splashes any room with light and imitates the colors of the universe. The striking chandelier is remarkable not only for its unconventional design but also for the fact that it was created after painstaking scientific research and its display of light actually represents the light show that the universe has been treated as it grew following the Big Bang.
With hundreds of LED lights, the striking LED chandelier glows magnificently though people with a more scientific bend of mind would certainly appreciate the fact that the light fixture was inspired by the Big Bang and tries to compress a billion years of the history of the cosmos into one second of its time looped display of lights. The angular light fixture is dubbed as the eL Masterpiece and the striking prefabricated stalactite like light stretches down from the ceiling taking center stage in the decor of a room.
Based on the theory that all the galaxies in the universe, including the Milky Way, expanded as the Universe grew and formed the basic structures of the cosmos as we know it today, the eL emits different colors to represent the changing colors of the stars in these galaxies as they expanded. Each LED in the eL represents the evolution of structure and mass in the Universe. This process is shown by the dynamic lighting that stands for the Big Bang and the expansion of the Universe. Enormous super-computers were used to run cutting edge simulations to come up with the lighting scheme of the chandelier that is sure to pique a science buff’s interests. The light display of the eL Masterpiece has been timed to run in a loop that plays for 14 second each, with each second representing a billion years of the cosmos’ existence.
Zumtobel, an Austrian lighting firm, partnered with Daniel Libeskind to create the glossy, multidimensional 2-1/2 ft wide and 9 ft tall stainless steel chandelier. Both, the sophisticated technology that underlies it and its superb design distinguishes the limited-run eL Masterpiece chandelier from the mass produced, made for retail lighting fixtures that the market is flooded with.
