It can’t be a coincidence that on April 21, the same day Laurel Black’s post, Too Old To Be A Designer? went up, our partner, the Freelancers Union, posted on the exact same topic, “What’s Age Got to Do with It?”
Laurel’s is a first person account rooted in questions about her future, while theirs complements with statistics and facts about what’s really happening out there in the world. Here’s an excerpt:
More than any other age group, older workers have remained unemployed for ninety-nine weeks or more, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, and one in every three seniors earn less than $22,000 a year, according to the National Council on Aging. You’d think older workers would be valued for their experience, but some prospective employers can be skeptical about an older worker’s technical skills.
