Ever since cellphones with built-in clocks came into our lives, the first dress-up essential to get the boot was the timepiece. The former wardrobe essential, however, has made a grand comeback as a fashion accessory with wristwatches being reinvented to fit in the modern lifestyle as more than just a timepiece. The LOAD concept by French designers Cédric Tanguy and Christophe Pilate is an innovative new design that features a rather interesting interface.
Instead of the regular watch face, the design comes with a curious touch screen that tells time via a loading bar. Perhaps drawing from the form of internet browsers, the LOAD watch’s interface is stylistically sound as well as technologically interesting. Although we are a little disappointed that the watch tells the hours, minutes and seconds via separate bars each of which requires a tap on the screen, the awesome MS Paint-like color palette that we get to choose from for the display, makes the painstaking time telling process a bit more bearable.
The LOAD Watch can be worn on either wrist without losing any of its functionality. The watch also features interesting user-customization options like social-media plug-ins which allow the users to download their personal data into the watch and stay connected to their on-line communities via their watches. The only downside, if any, of the watch is that the loading bar spills over the rather broad wristband and could potentially be a source of inconvenience for the wearer.
